Maude Latour is starting 2021 with a bang. Her first release of the year, the indie-pop single “Walk Backwards”, stays true to her brand of catchy earworms that get stuck in your head for days, but with lyrics full of heart and honesty.
Sonically, “Walk Backwards” sounds like it could be in the opening scene of a teen coming of age movie on Netflix. It’s the type of song that makes you feel like you’re driving down the highway with your best friends, windows rolled down with the summer sun shining down on you when in reality you’re stuck in your house in the middle of winter amidst a global pandemic. There’s nothing better than a song that can completely transport you, especially in times like these, and Latour pulls it off perfectly.
The lyrics paint a picture of best friends that are so close, it’s hard to tell if it’s strictly platonic love, or if it could almost be considered romantic. It shows the love between friends as being just as, if not more, strong and deep as the love in a relationship. This makes it the perfect anthem to drop just before Valentine’s Day, which many people will be spending with the friends they love as opposed to a significant other.
With an ever-growing catalogue of catchy, heartfelt, indie-pop tunes, and growing internet buzz, there’s no doubt that 2021 will be Maude Latour’s year.
