BETWEEN FRIENDS, an LA-based sibling duo consisting of Savannah and Brandon Hudson released “shiny” as the lead single in their first of three mixtapes leading up to their album release this summer.
The pair does a fantastic job on this track, coming in strong with Savannah’s musical style meshed well with Brandon’s production style. BETWEEN FRIENDS boasts a kinetic relationship with one another which helps with the creation of sultry, detached bedroom pop, and this song hit that on the head. The song comes in at two minutes exactly— not long enough to make the pattern of the song feel repetitive, and not too short that you feel like the song is missing elements of a hit.
The beat mixed with the relaxed yet precise vocals give the feeling of midnight adventures and reckless abandon. This song is meant to be on your Midnight Drives playlist. Savannah starts and ends the song with the chorus ‘I like it when we ride/money spend it take me high/ooh you shine so bright/walk with me we’ll crystallize [x2].’ Taking you right into the world of the song, it gets ingrained in your head immediately and you never want to stop singing it.
