Valley Talks New EP ‘Last Birthday’.
Written by: Sarah Evangelista
This isn’t the first or last time you’ll be hearing the name Valley on The Music Enthusiast.
We adore them. That might even be an understatement.
The four piece quartet from Toronto just released their new EP Last Birthday, and it’s filled with windows down bangers. We got to ask them a couple of questions during a press conference, ran by our friends at 1824 and Capitol Records.
Half of you guys met by chance, what do you think your lives (especially musically) would have been like if you hadn’t met?
Rob: I applied to 8 schools, I got accepted to none. So it was looking pretty slip! I would probably be at Starbucks still, and then maybe trying to be a music journalist - probably do like what you guys are doing, which I admire so much. Have my own music blog or be an editor at a magazine or something, I would just kind of figure it out. To answer you, I would kind of be out of luck.
Alex: I want to say I would work in the industry in some sort of way, but I honestly have no idea. I would hope to be like in music tech in some way. I don’t know, I do think of it like a little bit sometimes, like what would we have done if we didn’t meet.
Karah: For those of you who don’t know, we were accidentally double booked at a studio, so I think if we hadn’t been at the right place at the right time, there’s a really good chance we wouldn’t have met. We didn’t have any mutual friends when we checked like Facebook. We lived in different towns, it was like we had no connection. I don’t even know what I’d do about it, if it hadn’t happened.
Mickey: That Canadian contemporary duo.
Karah: Probably.
Mickey: I was gonna potentially go to school for architecture or like chiropractics, or something.
Alex: If anyone watches Marvel’s What If’s that are coming out right now, this will tie in really well with that. An episode, what if Valley didn’t meet? What would they do?
Karah: I would have been like a dog walker, but I would do it now. If you need your dog walked, hit me up!
Is there a song on the EP that almost didn’t make it onto the project?
Rob: All of them, the whole EP! This was the toughest track listing ever. “Oh shit… are we in love?” was like a hair away. “Cure” I did not want on the EP, I was like I just don’t think it’s right. “ain’t my girl” almost didn’t. Honestly, everything, we were scared of putting out. I don’t know why, we love all the songs. There was a lot of songs.
Alex: It was a tough decision making process. We do have a lot of more songs we’d love to share at some point.
Alex: What if the EP didn’t happen? {laughs}
