“Step Back” – watch and learn from GOT the beat.

SM Entertainment’s newest supergroup, GOT the beat, just debuted with their first single, “Step Back,” on January 1st. This is the first unit of the entertainment company’s latest project, GOT (also known as Girls On Top), which will feature units of various themes and genres, each made up of different combinations of female artists on their roster. GOT the beat’s seven members include Taeyeon and Hyoyeon from Girls’ Generation, Seulgi and Wendy from Red Velvet, Karina and Winter from aespa, and BoA.
The group’s debut performance of the single at the free virtual concert, SMTOWN 2022: SMCU Express @ Kwangya, was a prime demonstration of their performance skills. A tantalizing bass and chanting background vocals make this track catchy and fun to listen to. That, combined with the unique vocals of each member, help build a dynamic and engaging song. The smooth, trance-like bridge provides a stark contrast, yet a seamless transition, between the first and second halves of the track, which feature rap verses and breakdowns.
It’s clear that each member of GOT the beat is skilled on their own, and they make up an even larger force together. They know how to take the stage and their debut sends the message that they are here to stay.
