Sofie Dossi Releases “Bunny”.

Written by: Julia Jade

Okay, quirky pop culture wonderland Sofie Dossi has just released her debut single “Bunny” and it is what we in the biz call... iconic. I feel like I’m not cool enough to be covering this track... but here we go.

Firstly, we have to acknowledge the record scratch in this song because it’s the 80s nod we didn’t know we needed. It makes the song feel like it’s poking fun at itself... a self aware anthem.

If you’ve had your heartbroken and are feeling angry but also hot as hell, this song is 100% your new soundtrack. The chorus is so aloof while also escalating to such a harshness that I feel like I’m watching a thriller unfold before my eyes.

Let’s talk about the brilliant turn of phrase in the chorus:

“He was my bunny

So soft and cuddly

But every bunny hops away

Too bad my baby couldn’t stay”

Fun concept... sweet and wholesome concept...

He never loved me

“Just took it from me

I watch my little cotton ball hip hop away and take it all”

(Can we talk about how the use of ‘hip hop’s away’ in addition to the style of the production just makes that the perfect play on words...?)

“I hope you die bunny

I won’t cry bunny

Why did you run from me?”

WOAH. Sofie Dossi is officially taking us on a ride. I am still processing this song’s emotional heights but if anything, it’s an earworm, a statement, and incredibly clever. There’s something for everyone.
