Nessa Barrett’s EP is a reflection of pain, perception (and being petty of course.)
Track by Track Review:
“pretty poison” - Nessa Barrett speaks of the frustration of being perceived through the media. She acknowledges that not everyone will say the truth, yet someone will always have something to say.
“keep me afraid - Simply reflected through lyricism Barrett confronts the personal truths and challenges of being mistreated physically and emotionally.
“i hope ur miserable until ur dead” - In this track, Barrett addresses how a bad relationship can linger. Even though you can move on, being petty can be playful! Right?
“grave” - In this track, Nessa Barrett outwardly expresses appreciation in this track about feeling gratitude for someone you love and care about. Thanking them in a way for helping you by holding on through life’s dark times.
“scare myself” - Nessa Barrett lets us in on her battle with negative thoughts* and overwhelming emotions. In this track, Barrett confirms how dark thoughts take control causing you to be your own worst critic.
“i wanna die” - Loving so hard comes with a price - the fear of losing it. I can simply say admiration and connection are transformed into art by Barrett in this intimate track.
“sincerely” - in the beautiful conclusion track of her EP Barrett reflects as her mom assures her to “follow your heart”.
Overall Review:
In the much anticipated EP ‘Pretty Poison’ , Nessa Barrett gives the audience insight to her pain & perception. Through this musical storyline that she intends to have heard in order from top to bottom. Barrett let us in on defenseless parts of her life only she can speak for. The Alternative Pop/Rock EP, can only be described as beautifully vulnerable.
