The 5 five piece has made themselves one to watch this year. junodream is a band you need to know, before they get too big.

We got to interview Ed and Dougal, from the band, about their new music and what’s to come next.

You guys have a rescheduled tour for the fall/winter time, so how are you feeling about that?

Ed: It’s our first headline UK tour, so there’s no comparison to us. It’s exciting and nerve racking to us. Will 500 people turn up, or 5? We’ve got eyes on the ticket sales, and it’s okay in some places - some places {laughs}. We haven’t been playing music for like a year, so the first session was pretty bad, second session was normal. I don’t know if that says our normal is kind of bad. {Laughs}.

Dougal: I think there’s only so many times you could make the same joke - “we’re back!” {laughs} We’re playing lots of new places which we’ve never played before.

Ed: And there’s some people traveling to come see our shows!

What does junodream mean?

D: Starting out, we had to come up with a band name. We had a huge list of names. We had Big Monkey Bird and Pig Bin, which were maybe too weird?

E: Then we thought of the bands we like. Pink Floyd, and “Julia Dream”, eventually we stuck with junodream.

You guys are so cool. Do you think you’ve ‘found your sound yet’, in a sense?

D: We’ve been releasing songs since we were 14. We finally got to a point a couple of years ago, and it’s always been back and forth.

E: When you stop cringing at your own stuff, that’s when I think you’re okay. I think we’re also trying to make ourselves a name in music - like we’re a mixer of a bunch of genres.

D: We’re trying to invent a new genre, just for the sake of marketing {laughs}. There was space-rock…

E: We’ll let you know what we come up with.

D: I think we’re getting close though. Having a sound is pretty great, but I feel like we keep pushing to new things because we got bad attention spans, but we’re always looking for something new.

“Travel Guide” is amazing! Has it been in the works for a while?

E: We put this beauty together quite a while ago, it’s just been a band favorite for a while. We didn’t feel like it was appropriate for our music then though. It’s quite a junodreamy song. People think it’s very ‘us’, very unique, vibe? I don’t know. It’s really nice for it to be out, and it also fits into our theme of this upcoming mixtape. It’s quite nostalgic in a way.

D: There were so many versions to it as well. There was a chilled out one, a Robbie Williams one. It’s been nice to finally get the little bastard out into the world.

You’ve been posting pictures in the studio, so can you tell us anything about your upcoming new music?

D: You can’t always fall for that {laughs}, but we’ve been in the studio loads recently. We are writing lots and lots of music for an album! But we can’t say when it’ll be, or what it’ll be, or if it’ll be at this stage.

E: Just trying to get as many tracks in. In a way, we could release a 40 track album without cutting anything out, we have to get them to a good level.

If you could play a show on any planet, which one would it be?

E: We’d probably have to do it on the moon, but that’s not a planet so it doesn’t count. We’ll go for neptune.

D: I agree actually, it has the nicest name.

E: It’s often overlooked.

D: I completely forgot it what there until you said it actually! {laughs}

Who are your favorite artists?

E: Lion Garden, Pixie.

D: Flite, FAUX REAL
