Vancouver-based singer-songwriter Hannah Georgas has been a prominent indie-pop performer since the release of her first EP in 2009, having supported fellow indie acts such as City and Colour and Sarah Bareilles. She is known for her pop-rock, indie style, with subtle electronic nods, which are visible as she tours her latest record, I’d Be Lying If I Said I Didn’t Care, which came out this summer.
The self-produced album deals with self-awareness and self-worth and was described as ‘impressive and earnest song-writing’ by the Rolling Stone. Georgas manages to create a sound which is riddled with Canadian nostalgia. In a recent review with Range Magazine, writer Laura Stanley characterized the music as the ‘sound of our youths,’ and prompted Georgas to reflect on the album, and how it took a while for her to get started in music but that the past 15 years have been filled with immense growth and she’s able to now look back at her younger self and feel proud of everything she’s done.

The album is her most vulnerable yet and acknowledges how Georgas is embracing the journey she’s been on and the ability to reflect proudly as she has nothing more to prove -- or more accurately, doesn’t owe anything more to people. This album is about realizing it’s okay to want to grow and desire the things that you deserve and have worked towards; that it is enough to enjoy making music and create what you want and do what makes you happy above anyone else.
She took to the Petit Campus stage where a crowd warmly welcomed her and swayed in time with the music. Her soft voice was sincere and nostalgic, and enveloped the room in a soothing, familiar feeling; the night filled with her warm tones and melancholic lyrics. Certain songs like “Don’t Go,” show the real power in her voice and the range she possesses, the high notes resonating even way at the back of the crowd. She stays understated and chooses moments to let loose and build, and the intention behind those moments speaks to the thought which goes into her performances and music. Her catchy riffs and vocal precision made for a lovely performance which brought her music to life and showcased the spirit which went into its creation.
This newfound openness and confidence translate into an intimacy on stage which suggests that this latest album marks a turning point as Georgas is only continuing to grow, and is ready to embrace whatever comes next. Her pitch and tone made for a thoughtful performance and relaxed vibe which created a lovely show.
