Ed Sheeran brought fans to tears June 2nd during his intimate theater show at The Met Philadelphia. Beginning his show with the performance of his sixth studio album Subtract, Sheeran walked fans through his most raw album to date. Fans heard the 14 song album in its intended form with detailed explanations of each one. Sheeran takes fans through his journey of grief following his close friends death and his wife’s health battles. Never have I seen such silence during a show. For the first hour fans sat in awe of the artists vulnerability inside the historic Opera House as his voice filled the theater and our hearts. The second hour which Sheeran described as Happy hour was lively and energetic as the singer performed his most popular hits on his signature custom loop station. The evening was brought to a close with a fully acoustic version of his song Afterglow. Fans were instructed to remain quiet as he sang at the edge of the stage with no guitar or microphone before the show ended. This show was a private and once in a lifetime experience but for those who missed it, Ed performed his Mathematics show the next evening at Lincoln Financial Field for over 50,000 fans. As the main tour continues, Ed Sheeran will be performing a limited amount of theatre shows across the US as he shares Subtract, an emotional work of art about healing after loss.
