Yumi Nu Releases ‘Hajime’.

Yumi Nu’s latest release “Hajime” (meaning ‘beginning’) makes me feel cooler than I am. The ambient, surround sound EP makes me feel much cooler than I am. Better make sure this is playing in my car the next time I have a passenger!

The EP takes through a familiar and vulnerable journey of falling in love in your youth, set to a very vibey, ultimate indie soundtrack. Some highlights include: “Bouquet”- an instrumental that sounds very carefree and mature, juxtaposed with lyrics that highlight the vulnerability and insecurity that comes with first love. “Tell me that it’s better with me, this is different from what you’ve seen.” Then we are taken into “Sin,” which feels like “Bouquet”’s older sibling. “Call it sin, for questioning” feels like the natural next phase from the first love energy we’ve just experienced. When you start to see your partner as human, rather than idolizing them, and see their true colors as you start to question them and grow together. But all good things must come to an end.“Pots and Pans” concludes our journey with this love story. In a catchy, lo-fi style, Yumi Nu captures the experience of entering adult hood, without a “pot or pan to <your> name,” looking back on the young love that broke your heart. The EP being title “Hajime,” or “beginning” leaves us with the reassuring reminder that the end of a journey is truly only the beginning.
