Will Linley Makes his “Last Call” - An Interview with Will Lin
Written & interviewed by Sarah Evangelista
As mentioned in his Spotify biography, ‘[he] can’t remember a time in his life without music.’ That history and passion shines through in his projects, especially his latest release “Last Call”. We got the chance to ask Linley a few questions about his musical background and the single.
What's your fondest musical memory?
Singing with my brothers at home and playing at some of our friends' weddings!
"Last Call" is so catchy! It literally won't leave my brain. When making a song like this, do you go into the studio thinking that you'll make a bop, or does it usually come naturally?
I think there’s a level of confidence that you need to enter the studio thinking you’re gonna make a great song! But with this one I knew I just wanted to create something that encapsulated the feeling of falling in love and being so infatuated with that individual! That was the goal that day. And I think we may have done it haha
What musical element came first for this track?
The guitar hits were the first thing. Then we got our melodies and then finally the words fell into place.
You worked with Teddy Geiger on this track! How did you both come into collaboration?
She is managed by the same guys that manage my close collaborators David and Bubele. So we all just decided to get into a room together!
If you could describe your music as an animal, which would it be?
A golden retriever!
Who are your favourite artists/bands at the moment?
It changes every day! Right now it is: Sam Nelson’s solo stuff, RUEL, Mimi Webb, and Annie O’Malley
