After releasing ‘Can I Leave Me Too?’ earlier in 2021, Kansas City natives, The Greeting Committee, display their musical maturity with the release of their latest single, ‘Float Away.’ The indie band formed in 2014 and was signed to Harvest Records shortly after their formation, while all the bandmates were still in high school. In their early releases, their indie-rock approach was comfortable and catchy, but with their latest single, ‘Float Away,’ it is obvious the band is stepping out into a new phase in their writing.

‘Float Away,’ the latest offering from The Greeting Committee, is a fresh deviation as soon as the fuzzed out guitar and bass synth set the song in motion. Addie’s crystal clean vocals provide a welcome contrast to the grit in the rest of the song, which is heavy in the realm of indie-rock. ‘Float Away’ is very much a push and pull, creating a musical and lyrical potion that you don’t want to stop taking, partly due to the drums that never seem to slow their fiery pace. The lyrics speak about losing control of the trajectory of your life, whether that be due to relationships, substances, or your own distorted thoughts.

‘My life don’t feel like mine these days I find these days.’

These subjects, more universal than ever in 2021, provide an impactful story to tell. The Greeting Committee are certainly laying the foundation for an impressive album, one that will likely grapple with even more challenging subjects as the band continues to mature and reflect on their experiences. The Greeting Committee are a force to be reckoned with, touring with acts like Bombay Bicycle Club, Tennis, and Hippo Campus in the past. We are excited to see what they get up to next.
