The Greeting Committee Release “Anything But You”.

Written by: Eva Lynch

The latest single from The Greeting Committee, indie rock band from Kansas City, is a catchy song which talks about being in love and not being able to focus on “Anything But You” as the song’s chorus repeats. Something about the production of the song and hazy sound the blended guitar and vocals are able to create, makes it feel immediately familiar or comfortable and is reminiscent of those early feelings of longing or bittersweet heartache.

“Anything but You” is the second song off of their third album, after “Hopscotch” earlier this year, both produced by the Hippo Campus frontman, Jake Luppen. The band is already known for their warm and welcoming tunes about love from their big songs such as “Hands Down” and “Elise,” however their last album was a deep dive into heartbreak and grief following lead-singer Addie Sartino’s break-up, and this song takes them into a new realm of up-beat tracks which branch out rhythmically to test out new styles and play around with their sound.

The band had fun with the song and brought back a lightness and playfulness with “Anything But You.” In an interview with Unpublished Zine, they discussed the importance of vulnerability in what they create and the not only the importance but the power in music’s ability to make someone feel less lonely. Many of their songs look at how beautiful and simple love can be when you’re in it, and how uncomplicated those feelings can be. As they step into this new era of sound and their dynamic as a band shifts, having gone from five musicians to four, it’ll be interesting to see what this upcoming album explores and I’m excited to hear what comes next.
