The Backseat Lovers Release “Slowing Down”.

Written by: Lauren Everett

The Backseat Lovers have returned with “Slowing Down”, a new single featuring a drum-heavy instrumental produced by David Greenbaum, highlighting lead singer Joshua Harmon’s airy vocals over a warping guitar melody. Stretching over five minutes in length, the song’s refrain of “it’s getting louder” accompanies a gradual increase in volume of the instrumental, gaining momentum as the song progresses.

Written on a mountain retreat during the pandemic, Harmon stated that the song “came together in a time when all four of us needed it.”

“Over the few days at the cabin, the song was born out of feelings and fear, faded dreams seeping into our mornings, and a personal worry that I was slowing down the person I loved.”

The third single ahead of the Salt Lake City based indie-rock quartet’s sophomore album Waiting to Spill, out October 28, “Slowing Down” has been met with critical acclaim.
