Maggie Rogers Releases “Want Want”.

Maggie Rogers’ new single “Want Want” is already making us “Want Want” more. On June 1, Rogers dropped the energetic second single for her upcoming album Surrender, becoming yet another hit in her critically acclaimed, Grammy-nominated discography.

Produced alongside frequent Harry Styles collaborator Kid Harpoon and former bandmate and indie-pop musician Del Water Gap in upstate Maine during quarantine, “Want Want” features distorted guitars and heavy percussion, marking a dramatic sonic departure from the ubiquitous synths of Rogers’ 2019 debut album Heard it in a Past Life. Directed by Warren Fu,  the music video for “Want Want” features Rogers, clad in a blonde wig, performing the song in a gritty Koreatown karaoke bar. In a letter shared to social media, Rogers stated that the song and accompanying video are “about sensuality. About embodiment. About freedom.” All three of these characteristics are on display as Rogers lets loose visually, sonically, and lyrically all at once in “Want Want”. In lyrics such as “Can't hide what you desire once you're on it/Can't fake what you can't break up with”, Rogers invites a lover to stand with their feelings for her, embodying a sense of both longing and fun, making for an equally fun listen.

Following upbeat lead single “That’s Where I Am”, “Want Want” offers another taste of Rogers’ sophomore album Surrender, out July 29 via Capitol Records. Catch her on tour in the UK and Europe this fall with special guest Samia!
