Goergia Christy, and Sophie Skye Edwards (AKA SkyeChristy) recently released “i’m not like alice”. Following up to the release, the sisters would tease the track on TikTok, which caused a lot of eyes to be on them. We had the chance to interview the duo on the track and what’s to come next.

What is the story behind the writing of “I’m Not Like Alice?” What inspired the lyrics?

Essentially, “I’m Not Like Alice” was inspired by a rocky break up. Everyone has an Alice in their life that makes them feel like they’re not good enough. On this song, we wanted to make listeners feel not alone and know that it is okay to not be that girl.

Has your relationship to the song changed since recording and releasing it?

Yes definitely. We were surprised to see how many people could relate to the song and we’re so happy that people found comfort in the lyrics. I think we’ve all felt like the less exciting person once or twice whether that be in a relationship or a friendship. This song is meant to let people know that they’re not alone.

“I’m Not Like Alice” feels simultaneously dark, warm, and ambient. Who are your musical influences that you can hear have impacted your sound?

Honestly, we’ve pulled inspiration from all over the timeline of music history while also being inspired by a plethora of genres. We’ve been inspired by a lot of current artists like Lana Del Rey, Noah Cyrus and Mac Miller, as well as some older stuff like Crosby, Stills & Nash, Eagles and Jose Feliciano.

If you could make “I’m Not Like Alice” the theme song to a TV show, or the score on a movie trailer, what movie or show would you pick?

We’d love to hear our song in a James Bond film, but that’s the dream. If not that, we’d probably want our song in a crime show on Netflix. Those shows never seem to fail and I always hear people asking, ‘have you seen that new documentary on Netflix?’

What is your process of writing as a duo?

Usually one of us will start something and then will bring it to the other sister. More often than not we’ll hate what we bring to each other, but  on the rare occasion where the other sister actually likes what they’ve started, it begins. We can finish the song in 20 minutes or we can finish the song in four hours. It honestly just depends. Writing with a sibling is probably the most effective way to write a song just because there’s no bullshit. If you don’t like something you say it.

How does this release compare to your prior releases? Specifically, your debut single? How do you feel you’ve evolved as a duo since releasing those?

That first song that we put out, we weren’t trying to further our careers in any way. That song was for our close friend Lucas who passed away, and for anyone who was close to him. The release of “ I’m not Like Alice” is completely different. All of the traction from Alice has led people to our first release, and we’ve discovered a lot of people relate to our loss and find comfort in “Sending Light (For Lucas)”. Nothing could make us happier than that.

Is there really an Alice? Can we hear about her?

Yes, I think we’ve all got an Alice in our life. The song is all about encapsulating the moments where you feel lesser than and letting people know they’re not alone. While an Alice inspired it, the track isn’t targeted at any one person.

You both started writing as teenagers. Is this the kind of music you pictured you’d be making when you started out?

Yes it is. We’ve both always been super stubborn and sure of what we wanted our music to sound like. We’ve always stayed true to what we love, and luckily people seem to like it.

What is your favorite thing about the track?

We love how at the very end of the song our voices echo during the chorus. It’s funny how the part you think would gain traction with fans and on social media doesn’t.

What do you wish more people knew about you as a duo?

We want people to know that we are each other's best friend. In our TikTok bio it says “Sisters4Life” and it is true. At the end of the day, we’re just grateful to be in this together.

What would you like listeners to take away from “I’m Not Like Alice” as well as your other releases thus far?

We want everyone to know that we’re real people who are singing what we know. The pain we’ve felt, as well as the love. We also want our listeners to know that they’ve changed our lives and that we couldn’t be more grateful.
