Interview with Ronboy.

Ronboy is definitely one to watch. We got to ask her a few questions about her artistry and debut album, Pity to Love.

You've been in love with music from a very young age. Do you remember the moment when you chose to head towards your music career?
I was always circling music. I think the decision was more of a progression rather than a moment. Sort of a slow prying of the fingers off what I thought I should be pursuing otherwise. The more I got involved and built a community, the deeper it sunk in that music is what I wanted full stop. And that it was a real option.
Were there any forms of art that inspired the project? (films, music, art, fashion, etc…)
Art and music are always an influence. Sort of a backwards example, but at the time of producing the album I’d been following along with a local artist, Ryan Noble. He posted a piece entitled ‘Mariana’ and I remember thinking how it looked exactly like the record sounded in my head. I reached out about it, showed him the music and the piece became my album cover. For me, to have these two bodies of work, created completely separate from one another, fit together so well was incredible.
Off of the 10 tracks, which were the easiest and hardest to create?
I had so much fun with “Forget It”. Every aspect, from inception to mixing, was fluid. I always got a buzz off that song. Similar with “Oceans Of Emotion,” they both came to life in such a way that felt very instinctual and exciting.
Not hard to write, but harder to nail down productions were “Your Way” and “Easy For You.” Especially on “EFY”, getting the sonic emotion across without being brash took some maneuvering.
What can you tell us about your music plans for the new year?
Releasing Pity To Love physically on vinyl! Currently in production. Can’t wait to get my hands on it. The album has a lot of life left to give. I want to tour as much as possible. Certainly some local shows in Los Angeles and up the west coast. And some new collaborations with other artists.
Who are your favourite artists/bands at the moment?
Slowdive has been on repeat lately. I’ve been revisiting a native Washington favorite, Mount Eerie. And I’m always listening to The National, Dry Cleaning, Dijon, Sharon Van Etten, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Mitski, IDLES, Rosalía... The last few years have put out some killer albums. I’m glad to be overwhelmed by choosing who to put on.
