Interview with NO STATIC.

Written and interviewed by Laury Verdoux

Electronic DJ/producer just returned with a new track titled “Kill Em”. We got the chance to interview him to know more about how he got into music, his artistry and future plans.

How did you first get interested in DJing and producing music?
In around 2011 I first heard Kaskade, Avicii and Deadmau5 and I fell in love with dance music. I had already been producing music for a little while but was making mostly hip hop beats and posting them on Youtube. I made my first dance track which was absolutely atrocious (it's still on Youtube somewhere) but I was hooked at that point. I got a little Numark mixer and my friends and I would mix for hours in my basement. When I got to college I started DJing at local bars and clubs!
What sets your style of music apart from others in the industry?
I think the main thing that distinguishes my music is the inspiration from so many different genres. My favorite thing to do is to get inspiration from something totally different than what I’m making. Music has always been the most important thing to me besides my family and friends, so I feel like my sound carry’s flavor from classic rock, to pop, to Latin and ethnic music to give a familiar but unique sound that’s perfect for the clubs.

Can you walk us through the creative process of your latest track "Kill Em"?
”Kill Em” was actually one of the fastest projects I’ve ever finished. My friend Noven sent me the live flute sample and immediately I had the entire idea in my head. When I get excited about something I’m able to power through it really quick, also because I don’t leave the studio until it’s done which is not always the best idea lol. The flute gave a sort of middle eastern vibe straight away which makes the breakdowns really cool and fun to listen to. I knew I wanted the drop to be pretty stripped back and hard hitting. I felt there was something still missing though. I had the whole track done before I added the vocal, and once I did that I knew I had something special because it just gave it that extra swag which enhanced the record so much.

What was your most memorable performance as a DJ so far?
I can’t say any one in particular, but this year I’ll be playing the Breakaway Music Festival for my festival debut in the Fall and I know that one is going to be super special!

How do you interact with your audience during a performance to ensure a positive experience for everyone?
Constantly looking at the crowd is the most important thing to see if they’re digging what you’re playing. They feed off your vibe so if you’re up there with a smile and having a great time that energy will be felt much more by the crowd.

Do you have more original track(s) coming soon?
I have a bunch of original tracks coming, not sure if I can say what labels yet, but some of my favorite labels ever and I’m so excited! My next original will be coming out later this month and it’s a solo track but my next release after that is a collaboration with another dope tech house DJ!

What would you like to say to our readers?
Thank you for taking the time to read and thank you all for listening to my music. New shows will be announced soon for this year and I hope to see everyone at Breakaway Festival in Carolina!
