Interview with little image.

Written and Interviewed by: Sarah Evangelista

Pictures could say a thousand words, but what about a little image?

I would argue it says the same, if not more.

The alt/pop trio just released their second single of the year, “BLUE”. We got to interview them.

You've been little image for almost a decade now. What is your fondest musical memory from being in the trio?

(Jack) When we graduated high school and wanted to start writing the next record, we rented a studio in this small town called Cisco, Texas. It has about 3000 people, one grocery store, a bar down the street, and a small coffee shop. We wrote some of our favourite songs at that studio, including “WORTH IT” and “EGO” and an early version of “LUNGS BURN”. I would say our time in Cisco was one of the most important memories for us and helped us really focus on what we wanted to make.

“BLUE" is your second release of the year! What was it like watching a little idea turn into this song?

(Troy) It is amazing to look back at how many versions this song has had. We knew it was a very special song and we needed it to find the finish line in the correct way. Now listening to it and watching the music video, it is hard not to feel emotional because it feels like you are listening to years of love and growth between us.

Were there any obstacles that you faced when creating this track? How did you overcome it?

(Brandon) It’s always challenging trying to put observations into words that others might relate to. I think Jack did a great job hitting a balance. The song has been around for a while, and we’ve gotten to live this one out and even change the direction as we were feeling the weight of life in our society in real-time. It always helps when you have a lived experience.

What is the best advice you can give to another band who'd like to stick together as long as you have?

(Jack) Talk about things that are hard or hurtful, admire each others differences, and enjoy the fact that someone else is going to bring a new perspective to the song or idea that is being created. Our favorite part about our music is that we all listen to different things, but when our different inspirations are all brought to the table it creates something that each of us individually would have never made. Being in a band is like being in a marriage with more than one person, it’s very tough and there are a lot of feelings and opinions. Just learn to respect and trust each other.

Who are your favourite artists/bands at the moment?

Radiohead, Phoenix, Cage The Elephant, Big L, Turnstile
