Interview with Kid Brunswick

It’s safe to say that Kid Brunswick’s music is unlike anyone else’s. He’s his own sound. Also known as Harry James, the artist speaks of mental health and addiction in his songs, and he’s one of our favourite artists on the rise. Read our interview with the artist below.

Here’s a basic interview question that you’ve probably heard before, but how’s covid life treating you lately?

It’s boring. I hope people can relate to that

Where did the name Kid Brunswick come from?

I used to live on Brunswick Road and I still feel like a kid.

Your debut album we surround ourselves with chaos, speaks of many difficult life moments, do you find it easy to open up to such a big audience?

we surround ourselves with chaos is more of a tape, not an album. Everything came to me naturally. I’m excited for everyone to hear my new music.

How did you come up with the album name?

Growing up I had a very chaotic childhood and that chaos sort of went into my adult life as well. The name seemed fitting and I stuck with it as soon as I came up with it.

“4AM” is your newest single, and it’s about addiction, and you wrote it after leaving rehab, was it sort of nerve racking to release something as personal as that?

Actually it was a bit scary and any other song I’ve released before because of the fact that I’d never talked about my mental health issues prior to this year.

What things (creatively) do you feel are easier and harder to do post rehab?

Now what i'm using i have quite a clear mind but because of that i think too much and my mind doesn't stop racing because im not drunk or high. The good thing about getting clean is that your feelings come back. The bad thing about getting clean is that your come feelings back. The reason why is that when you don’t have a lot of feelings, you don’t overthink things and it’s very easy to just not care. But now I care too much - every little detail kind of goes over into the music as well.

You constantly strive to be like no one else, how do you find yourself doing that when inspiration is everywhere?

I think, out of every 10 songs that I write, there will be 1 that sounds like me.

What about you is misunderstood?

People constantly try to compare me to other artists without realising that I'm actually doing something as unique to myself as possible. If that means that a certain song might sound like another song, that might be the intention behind it. It's just the fact that I do everything completely honestly and I don’t try to copy anyone else.

You posted an instagram story yesterday, saying that the long awaited EP is ready, when could we expect new music?

My next single drops in 3 weeks

Our blog is all about up and coming artists and groups, do you have any you’ve been keeping your eyes on lately?

My mate, Masterpeace. Someone I'm working with at the moment and very excited to continue working with.
