Inhaler is here with the latest contender for your album of the year. Their debut album ‘It Won’t Always Be Like This’ is one of the best projects to come out this year, and you would be remiss to not give it a listen.
Inhaler -- consisting of vocalist Elijah Hewson, guitarist Josh Jenkinson, bassist Robert Keating, and drummer Ryan McMahon -- may be a comparatively young band, but you would never be able to tell. To any average listener, they sound like a band that has been releasing music for many years, decades even. This is a band who seems so sure and confident in their sound, and rightfully so. “It Won’t Always Be Like This” may be one of the best debut albums of recent years, and it commands all your attention.
Every track does exactly what it needs to do, whether it’s anthemic sing-along tracks like the infectious “Cheer Up Baby” or “My Honest Face”, or more chill tracks like “Totally” and “Slide Out The Window”, Inhaler has the perfect track for every mood. A major stand-out comes mid-album with “A Night On The Floor”, a track that could probably only be described as the identical feeling you get when you're drunk at a party and everything around you is spinning ever so slightly, yet you feel like the hottest and coolest person in the room. Even the shorter, interlude-type track “Strange Time To Be Alive” fits in perfectly, and feels less like a filler and more like a slow, almost haunting moment to pause before throwing you headfirst into the excellent album closer, “In My Sleep”. Each song on this record pulls you in and you feel fully engaged and in the moment through each listen. This is definitely a quintessential summer album you’ll have blasting through your car speakers for months to come, and making countless memories too.
Their overall sound can’t be compared to any other band on the scene right now. The only comparison one could possibly make is maybe Sam’s-Town-era The Killers - but even then, Inhaler has crafted their own brand of alt-rock perfection that even this comparison feels like a bit of a stretch. This is a truly unique band that is starting incredibly strong and can only get even better from here. With more and more people taking notice of their unique style and an ever-growing fanbase, Inhaler is set to become the next biggest name in alternative.
