IDK Releases “Dog Food (feat. Denzel Curry)” & ‘Simple.’ EP.

Written by: Nina Fedai

IDK’s newest song “Dog Food,” which features rapper Denzel Curry, is an alternative hip-hop masterpiece. The track is featured on IDK’s news EP, Simple., and is a definite standout. Produced by Kaytranada, “Dog Food” has a soulful and smooth sound with notable jazz influence. To say the least, as a funky, house-influenced, and genre expansive song, listeners can recognize that this is a Kaytranada produced song almost immediately.

“Dog Food” shares the story of a neighborhood characterized by crime, drug use, and struggle. The juxtaposition between the heavier lyrics and the brighter instrumentals is what makes artists like IDK so unique. The ability to evoke contradictory emotions, and to create a song that makes you want to think and reflect, but get up and dance, all at the same time, is unparalleled.

In Denzel Curry’s feature, the track slows down and listeners are transported into what feels like a whole new segment. The vocals are soulful and beautiful – I think if this section of the song existed on its own as a whole other track it would also have made its way to my playlist.

Further, “Dog Food” is a very chill, but strong piece. Definitely one to play on repeat!

“Dog Food” and the Simple. EP are both out now!
