Christian French is definitely one of our favourite rising stars, here at The Music Enthusiast, because he’s constantly trying to make his music better than ever with every release, and isn’t like any other artist. The Indiana native just put out his newest EP, titled good things take time, and like I mentioned before, it’s unlike anything he’s done before. Last time we spoke to Christian, he mentioned that he tried a bunch of new things while writing this EP, and I could say with certainty that all the experimenting was worth it. Here’s our track-by-track review of the project:

Track 1: “good things take time”

This tune was definitely a great choice as an opening track - it starts the EP off on a high note for sure. The title track, “good things take time” is a feel-good and catchy song that makes you feel like life is perfect for a few minutes. With a chorus like; ‘oh, it's okay, it's all gonna work out one day, step up, fall behind, it's the way it's designed 'cause, good things take time’, you could tell it’s a super optimistic song, and is a tune to listen to when you need to be cheered up and be put into a good mood. Christian doesn’t fail to make a fun feel-good tune.

Track 2: “wake up”

“wake up” is more of a chill and laid back song. The first time I listened to the tune, it reminded me of “hungover sunday”, off of his last project bright side of the moon. They both have the same feeling while you listen to it, and it’s that cozy and warm feeling. Like I mentioned before, it’s an acoustic and chill tune, but it also speaks of an important topic. In the song, he mentions that ‘it’s time to wake up’, and that the world has problems and we have to start facing the reality and try to fix it.

Track 3: “i think too much”

Expressing the process of overthinking and discussing mental health, “i think too much” is an extremely catchy 3 minute tune that lots of people could relate to. Brains could be people’s worst enemy, but you could always try to ignore it for a few minutes, and sing along to this song instead.

Track 4: “crowded room”

The fourth track off of the project was the second single that was released. Christian experimented with more background vocals with this one, nearing the end of the song especially.

Track 5: “make or break up”

'“make or break up” starts off with a sweet acoustic guitar riff, and eventually turns into an explosion of emotions and different sounds. The song focuses on the stage of a relationship where you’re debating whether you should fight or flight.

Track 6: “time of our lives”

This was the first single that was released from the project, introducing his new era with a slightly different version of Christian’s music we didn’t hear before.

Track 7: “paper thin”

The last track off of the EP is the last single that was released from the project. “paper thin” ends the EP off on an emotional note for sure. Personally, it’s one of my favourite songs off the project, it’s so beautiful, but it does make me emotional. It speaks of possibly getting another shot at love with someone, and saying ‘the odds are paper thin, but we won’t know ‘til we try’.
