Google Search: “How to Teach a Robot to Love?”

Written by: Sarah Evangelista

Someone once compared their thoughts on love back in the day to me. In our conversation, they mentioned the nice guy at your doorstep, holding up a stereo and flowers. I blushed. They contrasted with a DM lighting up your screen saying “DTF?” My face went back to normal. I knew it wasn’t a lie, it was reality.

These days, with electronics, it is so easy to make connections with strangers. Easy is a nice term. It is so easy, that most people in this generation don’t put as much effort into the ones they say they love.

Some could even say these people are robots. They go on with their day, giving the absolute minimum, if not less.

Amelia Moore explains this perfectly with teaching a robot to love.

What I wanted to do with the title of the project, was give another word to describe people’s significant other [...] I would love for the word ‘robot’ to just become a regular part of people’s conversations.

Instead of toxic or emotionless, Moore used the word ‘robot’. She mentioned that the idea for this word came from the card game Cards Against Humanity. Playing with her friend, one of the cards said ‘teaching a robot to love’, which they laughed at at first. The artist then realized it was a really good idea, and she made “Intro”.

She mentioned that the concept was a happy accident, and it completely matched her feelings towards her ex at the time of this event. Cards Against Humanity coming in clutch.

You never know where a nugget of inspiration will come from.
